Richard L. Popp, M.D.

Rich is an Advisor of Lightstone Ventures. He joined ATV in 2003 and serves in a similar role. A Clinical Cardiologist, Rich Popp is Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, as well as the Director of Ethics and Policy in The Biodesign Innovation Program at The Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Popp pioneered research, development, and establishment of the clinical utility of most forms of Echocardiography. He has more than 300 scientific publications and book chapters. In addition, he has held many senior leadership positions, including Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at The Stanford University School of Medicine, President of the American College of Cardiology, President of the Association of University Cardiologists, and Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Cardiovascular Diseases Subspecialty Board. In 2001, The American Society of Echocardiography established the yearly Richard Popp Award honoring a “physician who epitomizes the ideal qualities of a mentor and role model.” Dr. Popp is receiving the 2012 RamBam Award of the Technion University’s major Healthcare Campus in Israel that is given to “exceptional individuals for their prodigious contributions to science, medicine, and technology, as well as for their leadership and contributions to humanity.”
